Children often present with various anxieties, behavioral issues, or difficulty adjusting to school or changed circumstances in the home. Some children have experienced a particular trauma and are having trouble coping. I am a Child Psychologist with expertise in child development and the various ways in which children view and cope with the world. It is not unusual for children to regress when under stress. When possible, I like to incorporate an imaginative element with young children. I utilize play therapy, sand play, child-friendly EMDR, relational therapy, sensorimotor psychotherapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, family therapy, and expressive arts. Children’s issues typically resolve fairly quickly when the parents and family are involved in the treatment. I welcome check-ins and may ask for some family sessions. I can also work collaboratively with the child’s school when given permission to do so.
I have a particular expertise in helping adopted children and children who might have Reactive Attachment Disorder. I can help family members learn to attach to each other more securely. I have special training in helping children recover from trauma, whether it be accidental, interpersonal, medical, or abuse.
I treat issues such as separation anxiety, obsessive compulsive tendencies, insecurities, anxiety and depression in children. I can help with parenting. As a trained couples therapist, I am also able to help with co-parenting and child-friendly separations.
My office includes sand play equipment, toys, books, and games to help engage children. Please call for a free phone consultation to inquire how therapy might be able to help you and your child.
